Davina McCall filmed having coil fitted for documentary as she says it 'felt amazing'

Davina McCall was fearlessly filmed having the Mirena coil fitted for her new documentary, Pill Revolution.

The 55-year-old will explore the contraceptive pill in her new Channel 4 show and will provide viewers with a closer look at the endless side effects.

Davina said she struggled to find the right contraception until she came across the Mirena coil.

It's a T-shaped plastic device that's put into your womb (uterus) by a doctor or nurse and releases the hormone progestogen to stop you from getting pregnant.

The Mirena coil lasts around 3 to 5 years and Davina revealed she uses it to supplement her Hormone Replacement Therapy.

In order to demystify the process of inserting the coil, Davina filmed herself getting it changed for TV.

"This was my idea. Just in case anybody thinks that the TV company made me do it, absolutely not, I suggested it, because it's the one thing that so many people contact me and say they’d never get a coil fitted because of all the horror stories," she revealed.

On the programme, Davina discusses the exact sensations she experiences while getting it fitted.

Speaking to OK!, Davina said: "The thing that hurt the most was a short sharp jab when they measured the cervix to see how far they needed to put in the coil."

She went on to explain how she never felt the insertion of the coil.

"During the process, I had some stomach cramps for about ten or fifteen minutes, and then afterwards, I didn't feel anything. It was amazing," Davina said.

The Masked Singer star was previously praised for shedding light on menopause when she fronted Sex, Mind and the Menopause.

The show saw the former Big Brother host explore the issues that women face when it comes to menopause as well as perimenopause.

Davina not only spoke to various women about their individual experiences, but she also touched on her own and how she coped with the change in her mental and physical health.

Davina McCall's Pill Revolution airs 8 June at 9 pm on Channel 4 and Channel 4 Streaming.
